Skips are usually full of waste material, much of which can be recycled and turned back in to something useful rather than burying it in landfill sites. It’s a valuable resource and something we’re good at, at Cherry Hill Waste.
Occassionally things of even greater value turn up in skips too. The BBC’s Flog It programme – to which people bring their antiques and collectables for valuation and sale at auction – featured an oil painting which was found in a skip, in Kilmarnock in Scotland.

The painting was by Canadian artist Robert Wakeham Pilot (born 1898, died 1967). Considering that it was found in a skip, the oil-on-panel painting was in remarkably good condition.
Under the hammer
Expert, James Lewis, was very excited about a painting and valued it at £1000-1500. In the auction room, the atmosphere was tense as the painting went under the hammer. The final bid, from a telephone bidder, secured the painting for £1900. Not bad for something found in a skip!
You can watch the episode of Flog It on the BBC iPlayer. And you can hire a skip right here, at Cherry Hill Waste! Of course, you’re unlikely to find a valuable painting but we will ensure your waste is carefully managed and recycle as much of it as we can.
